Jay Moore graduated in the top of his class at the Colorado Institute of Art in 1984, but his education started long before graduation, and well outside the classroom. Moore took a lifetime spent outdoors and funneled nature’s emotional impact on him down into his magnificent landscape works. Today his award- winning paintings are collected all around the country, and they are shown at some of the top galleries and museums. He frequently paints mountain landscapes including many that feature water elements, for which is he well known and respected, and also wildlife, which is a recent addition to his work. “While I paint many subjects, my affinity is mostly for Colorado. I’m a Colorado native, and it’s my upbringing there—from wading through streams to climbing mountains to hiking in its beautiful forests—that led me to where I am now,” Moore says. “When I’m outdoors I get inspired very easily and see subjects for new paintings everywhere.” His work is known for its delicate attention to detail and also the way he captures nature’s moods and nuance without sacrificing the epic scope that his work achieves with the grandeur of his subjects. “If you get up before dawn, you’re going to see things that will amaze you. And if you stay there until twilight and look closely enough you’ll see things that will astound you because they are so spectacular,” he says. “With every piece I’m just trying to capture the reverence of the land around me.”
